Department of Economics

The department of economics was established in the year 1989 with the inception of the institution. The permission for the subject was approved by Guwahati University in the  year 1993. The department has an important role in developing awareness regarding economic problems among the society. Being situated in rural backward areas, the department has been playing a crucial role in developing a problem solving mechanism for the people in this areas. The department runs basic courses in economics such as Introductory Micro Economics, Introductory Macro Economics, International Trade, Mathematical Methods for Economics  Statistical Methods for Economics, Indian Economy, Public Finance etc at under graduate level. The department has been publishing a wall magazine named as "Samay The time" in every year. The department has an ECONOMIC FORUM which has been doing different activities. The faculty members from the department participate in national seminar and conferences every year and have good academic contribution in the subject.

The department has been maintaining a quality teaching cope-up with the national standard of teaching to make the students capable of facing any kind of challenges in the competitive world. The department also strives to make awareness on the part of the people of the neighbouring society regarding economic environment and involvement of the peoples participations in developmental programmes to achieve a sound and sustainable economic development.

The mission of the department is to improve the quality of the students to their level of excellence but not giving up the quantity, i.e, the maximum number of students beneficiaries. The department aims to make the students to concern about the economic environment of the state, national and global as wel. The department also makes endeavours to develop the skill of the students from the economic angle so that they  can get job opportunity after completing under graduate  courses of economics
